If you have finally decided that you need an accountant’s help, your next task is searching for accountants that you can trust. Here’s how:
#1 Make a shortlist
To do this, you may opt to ask for your close family and friends’ referrals or search the internet. Do get their name, contact number, office address, and their website (if available).
#2 Call or meet the accountants in your list
Your conversation should include questions regarding their experience – Do they have clients in the same field as you do? Can they take care of your business?; Fees – How much do they charge? What does that charges cover?; Personnel – Who will you be working with most of the time, himself or a partner? Choose about three to five accountants to meet.
#3 Check credentials
Before you close the deal and hire them, make sure that they are duly licensed by the state to practice. Meet them in their office so you’ll know where to find them. You may also check with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) if they are registered. Finally, asks for two to three references which you can call and asks about them. Call these references and asks for a personal feedback.
#4 Professionalism
Always do a background check on your soon to be personal accountant. Know his/her records and always take note if you are comfortable being with him/her as your accountant. This is very important because your accountant is responsible to the financial matters in your firm or business.
